Gaslamp Fish House, formerly known as Spike Africa’s, is the first restaurant in the historic Gaslamp Quarter, a 16 block neighborhood. Located in what is considered the heart of San Diego, this is the site of the city’s premier nightlife, bars and theaters. You can find us on the corner of Fourth and Broadway, between Horton Plaza and the US Grant Hotel, just minutes away from the Convention Center and Petco Park.
It pays homage to Spike Africa and the memory of a true sailor, whose life was dedicated to the ocean. Captain Spike’s was one of the last great “tall Ship” schooner captains on the west coast. He sailed the waters from Alaska to Tahiti for most of the 20th century.

“Awesome happy hour! Service is excellent and the food and drinks were great. We had the oysters on the half shell and the truffle fries. Both were great but the fries were at another level.”
“The food and the service were superb. Surf and turf with the blue cheese sauce was yummy. Tasty cocktails perfectly timed. We will definitely go back.”
“Third time here, happy hour is bomb! We looove the $1.25 oysters. Everything we’ve tried here is amazing. Brussel sprouts *drool*. Sweet potato fries *drool*. They even gave us free ceviche and champagne for our birthday. They sure know how to make a regular customer outa me ;)”
My lunch this visit was excellent. The bartender was friendly and attentive. The rainbow salad and the BLTA sandwich were both excellent. Helpful tip: if you like champagne, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot here is a bargain at $85. The Grant Grill across the street charges $130.
